Lonely Hearts Club

Members of the Lonely Hearts Club

Sometimes, we have Dogs or Cats who get overlooked.  They remain in foster care month after month, and must endure the stress of many, many Mobile Adoption events.

Lonely Hearts pets come in many different forms.  Sometimes they're cats or dogs who cower in the back of their cages at Mobile Adoptions events, but who are carefree and friendly at home.  Or they might be adult cats or dogs, when everybody's searching for kittens or puppies. And sometimes they have unique personality quirks or physical challenges that require a special family, who will be understanding and accepting of them just as they are.

Unfortunately, they don't quickly warm up to potential adopters and demand to be taken home - which greatly reduces their opportunity for adoption.  Instead, they patiently wait for their chance with a new family and a new life.

If you are the kind of person who, above all, wants to help those in need - take a look at our Lonely Hearts Club members. They may not be the pet that everyone else is looking for; but perhaps they will be the love of YOUR life.

Our adoption counselors will work closely with you to address any issues that may arise and to help make the adoption go smoothly.  Adopt a Lonely Heart, and get 50% off our regular adoption fee.  And, just maybe, you'll find your new love.

Our Lonely Hearts Club members don't always attend the Mobile Adoption events, so if you're interested in any of them, please contact us.

Cocco

Cocco is about 8 years old but still very much full of life. She enjoys playing outside with the other dogs of various size and ages. She would also be good as an only fur kid. She doesn't require an active family, but one that will still play with her. While inside she is calm and loves to curl up in a doggie bed or on your bed! At approximately 70 lbs she is really just a sweet teddy bear. She is completely healthy and does not require any special accommodations. It is her turn to find her forever home.

Athena

Because I am small, I needed to get someone's attention in a big way. I decided to run out into the road. I needed someone to notice me. Luckily, a veterinarian technician came along. She stopped traffic to get me out of harms way and immediately tried to find my owners.

The only thing that I need now is a lap to take naps in and someone to love me. I would prefer to be an only fur kid. I could live with a docile cat as long as it stayed to itself. Since I am older, a calm environment would be better for me. Please no children. I don't need a lot of space or exercise, so an apartment situation would be fine. I would do well with an active senior adult. I have so many physical and emotional scars, can anyone love me? I need parents that understand what it takes to be healthy. I need to be on a strict diet and I need a nice stroll or some kind of physical activity every once in a while to help me lose weight. Unfortunately, my metabolism has slowed and I can gain weight very quickly. Did you know that green beans are the best thing ever?

Vicky & Sissy

Hi. I'm Vicky and this is my daughter Sissy We were rescued by a nice lady who helps feral cats. She took us off the street and got us vaccinated and everything. I like sitting on my foster Mom's lap, and Sissy does too, but not quite as much. We really enjoy taking naps together. We like people too, and love to play.

Jordan

Jordan is a playful, active cat with abundant personality seeking a feline playmate with the same traits.  She has grown up around other cats and would be an excellent companion to your other household kitties.  In fact, Jordan really needs the companionship of other cats in order to be truly happy.  Jordan also gets along well with dogs and loves to roll around on the floor, looking cute and trying to catch the dog's attention.  When it comes to people, Jordan likes nothing more than chatting you up over a cup of coffee in the morning, then following you around the house for the rest of the day.  While not the traditional "lap cat", Jordan is always there to keep you company and will provide you with ample opportunity to pet her and dote on her.  Jordan is very loving but not fond of being carried around, so she would do best in a household with children old enough to play "catch the feather toy" with her (probably 10+ years old).  As is true with many cats, Jordan demands patience as she gets to know and trust you (especially men for some reason), but once she does, you and your household pets will be rewarded with a ton of love and lots of fun playtime!

Jiggles and Tiggles

Jiggles (top) and Tiggles are two very sedate, laid-back kitties with subordinate personalities and would thrive in a multi-pet household.

They are both incredibly affectionate, attention seeking youngsters, and would both love to cuddle and sleep with you. Still quite young, they are playful and entertaining.

Although they can be adopted separately, they would make a great pair!!

Lyra

Named for the constellations, Lyra came from a litter of 7. Her name means “harp”. Unlike her 6 brothers & sisters (who’ve all been adopted), Lyra is a little shy. Raised in a muti-cat household, she centers her attentions mostly towards her foster cat-mates. Therefore, we feel It is best that she be adopted alone, so that she can bond with her people first. Then, if you wish, consider getting her a feline companion. If your goal is to find a companion for your existing cat, Lyra is the pick for you.

Hans

Hans is a very shy kitty. If in a home with no other cats, he will be your friend. He sleeps at the small of the foster mom's back (night snuggler). Sometimes in her lap in the morning, and even near her during the day. But does not like to be held. He is getting much better every day. It will just take some time and patience. His favorite toys are the feather wand, turbo scratcher, and laser light.  As you can see from his picture, Hans gets very scared at our adoption events.  Can you find room in your heart and home for Hans so he doesn't have to go through the stress of any more adoption events?

Mimi

Mimi was found by a kind doctor just outside the new hospital in Denton. She was dehydrated and malnourished and very shy around people. The kindly doctor treated her for these conditions and called us to help find her a home. She loves to sit in your lap and be petted but is very shy at first. She will need time to learn to trust you and with loving and gentle attention she will become a wonderful lap kitty. She would do best in a quiet home without small children.

Rachael

Little Rachel is the little runt of the litter. She has the most unusual coloring. She looks the most like the Abyssinian breed standard with a ticked coat on top and long legs, wide set eyes and a long nose. She is thin and sleek and wants very much to like you. She is very reserved. It took a long time for her to stop running from people. Now she runs off a little ways and stops, turns around as if to say, “Aren’t we going on a chase?” She is very playful with her siblings. Abys generally don’t like to be held, but they ALWAYS are in the area where there are people.

Natalia

Natalia is a grey Abyssinian mix teenager. She’s kinda’ aloof, but very playful and inquisitive about any item that comes through the door. She frequently bird watches and loves playing “cat and mouse” with our ferret. She would benefit from a family with few pets who could invest some love and attention upon her. Abys generally don’t like to be held, but they ALWAYS are in the area where people are. Her legs are long and she has a sleek body. She has wide-set eyes and a big nose, she’s beautiful!

Tank

Tank is a very loving cat looking for his forever home.  He wants nothing more than to be held in your arms... he will give back to you with loud, happy purrs.  Tank can also be playful.  He loves rolling over on his back and playing with a furry mouse but most of the time, he is just very loving and sometimes talkative.  He would do best as an only cat or one other cat.  Because he is older (around 9-yrs-old), Tank has been overlooked at many, many adoption events for the past year.  If you could possibly open your heart and home to a very deserving cat, Tank would reward you with his undying love and loyalty!

ADOPTED !

Picasso

Picasso is a beautiful cat with a beautiful soul to match.  She was turned into a shelter while very pregnant with kittens.  Most shelters are not equipped to handle newborn kittens, so Picasso was slated to be euthanized.  Luckily a CHS volunteer came along just in the nick of time.  She and her husband pulled Picasso from the shelter, and Picasso immediately proceeded to have seven precious little kittens.  She was a devoted and loving mother who nurtured each and every one of her kittens until they could fend for themselves.  Now that all of her kittens have found permanent homes, it's time for Picasso to find a home of her own.  Talk about a cat that deserves to be loved and pampered by devoted owners!  She's been through so much but still her beautiful soul shines through.  No doubt Picasso will reward you with the devotion she showed her kittens.  Picasso is a talkative cat who gets along with other cats, with dogs, and with young children.  She is a bit shy at the adoption events and thus gets overlooked. Can you look past this initial shyness and see Picasso for the the beautiful and deserving cat that she is?

Jared

I had a home sometime ago, but one day I got lost and ended up in a shelter. I didn't like it much, too noisy and scary for me. Then a volunteer saw me. She took me out for a walk and played with me. I put on my charm and rolled over so she could rub my tummy and gave her lots of kisses. I have so many different breeds making up my wonderful temperament and good looks. How can you resist me? I enjoy playing with other dogs, and just ignore the cats. I am very affectionate and obedient. I give lots of kisses and really enjoy being a family companion. I would love to have a couple of kids to play with and maybe another dog with some spunk. I am crate trained and housetrained. I'm about a year old and have had a little training. I don't jump and I know sit, shake, high five and dance. I am working on stay. I learn quickly and am eager to do so. I am an active boy and love to run, play tug-a-war, squeak my squeaky toys, and chew on paper. All I need is a nice home with loving people.

Snow Queen

Delightfully sweet cat who will talk to you if you call her name. Prefers to be the center of your household, with all of the attention to her. When she has had enough, gentle love bites will tell you to stop. Looking for that quiet home. She is a good eater, prefers Purina One. Does not like to ride in a car, would rather stay at home and bask in a sunny window.

ADOPTED !

Regi and Luca

Regi (on the right) is a true snuggle-bum. When being held, he can be as limp as a rag doll. He is a very gentle soul and knows no stranger. Playful and active.  His best friend is Luca (his foster mate, on the left), whom he adores. Regi says he loves Luca and his new owner will adopt them both, as they were destined to meet in foster care and spend the rest of their lives together.  Favorite toys: the little mouse and a balloon.

Luca is a very affectionate young fellow who thrives on attention and can sometimes carry on a conversation with you. He, too, is a gentle young man. Playful and active.  He and Regi, his foster mate, are very close to one another. They have decided that they will go through life together, looking for a new home as a pair and that their new owner, whom they haven't met yet, understands this.  Favorite toy: Regi.

ADOPTED  TOGETHER !

Sadie

Hi, I'm Sadie, sometimes called "momma dog". I came from a puppy mill where I lived in a small crate and had 3 litters of pups in 2 years time. I didn't know what it was like to walk on grass or sleep on a soft bed; I didn't even know what it felt like to be petted and kissed. I was very depressed, but I was always a good momma. A local animal shelter raided the puppy mill and took all of us to the shelter for safety. My pups were born and 4 days later CHS rescued my 6 puppies and me. I went to a wonderful, loving foster home where my puppies and I were cared for and loved. I was introduced to grass, cats, and other dogs, kids, and most of all loving touches. My puppies were put on the website for a puppy naming contest. Boy, there were some unique names! All of my little ones have been adopted but I am still waiting for that special forever home. You won't believe how sweet I am, absolutely the nicest girl in town. I have a mellow laid back temperament and I love people. My spirits are very good now and I actually have reasons for smiling.

ADOPTED !

Leo

I am Leo the Lion, a Maine Coon mix.  Wait till you see me and you will see the resemblance.  CHS rescued me from a local animal shelter about 5-6 years ago when I was less than a year old.  I went to live with my dad but he recently passed away so here I am looking for another forever home.  I have some really great qualities!  I am neutered, current on my vaccinations (5/1/06), declawed on the front paws and I just got a hygiene cut (that’s where they shave my private area because my fur is long).  I like other cats a lot but really need one or more that will play with me.  No active dogs, please – they scare me.  Toys are a must have as well as a lap to rest in.  Humans are the most wonderful things – they feed me, pet me, love me, brush me and have the best laps to sleep in.  I’m always happy to share the bed with you.  As long as you have me around, you will never be lonely because I love attention and I love to talk.  Unfortunately, I love to eat and my width and height are about the same.  My foster mom has me on a diet – big bummer!  Please come see me.

Crickwing

Crickwing is a ladies' man. He just adores women. Once he is comfortable with his lady, he will follow her everywhere. Crickwing enjoys stealing Q-tips, "helping with housework" and "working on the computer". This guy has been with us quite awhile. He was adopted by a family once. The mother and Crickwing quickly bonded and adored each other but, sadly, they were looking for a "family cat" and Crickwing hid from the father and children. So he was returned to us. Crickwing really needs a wonderful lady to come to his rescue and offer him a forever home. Could that lady be you?

ADOPTED !

Pistachio

Pistachio likes to think of herself as a lady of contrasts. She plays it cool and hard to get for a while then the next thing you know she’s looking for a little loving. This young lady gets along well with other cats and expects to sleep on the bed with you. Pistachio does not like strange places so she’s usually not her best at adopt-a-pets. Please ask about how our conditional adoptions can help you get to know our beautiful lady of contrasts.

ADOPTED !

Florence

Florence was bottle-fed from the time she was 3 1/2 weeks old. She has such a cute little face. Florence is very loving and loves to be held. She is used to being around small children (3 to 6 years old). We can't think of any reason that Florence hasn't been adopted except maybe that she's a tabby instead of a flashy-looking kitty.

ADOPTED !

Griffin

Griffin is shy, quiet, handsome and unusual. Either due to a birth defect or kittenhood trauma, he only has a few claws and they are deformed. He loves to follow you around or sit in your lap but is nervous when picked up. Because he doesn’t have claws, he can never be let outside or put in any situation where he needs to defend himself. He is unable to jump on furniture more than a foot high. Griffin loves cats and gentle dogs, especially very large dogs. He will do best in a sedate home with other animals. Griffin is about 2 years old.

ADOPTED !

Razzle

Razzle is a young cat (about one year old) seeking an experienced cat lover who "gets" her. Would you be willing to open your home & heart to Razzle and provide a patient, loving environment where she can thrive? Razzle would love a house with other cats that she can play with. She would be a great playmate for outgoing, younger cats. Ideally, her housemates would be lapcats that satisfy your need for cuddling, so Razzle can seek attention on her own terms. Razzle is initially cautious, but your patience will be rewarded with a lifetime of loyalty and gratitude. Once she trusts you, Razzle is always nearby observing your every move (and she can help with any painting you might do!). When she does meow and ask for attention, it melts your heart because it is so sincere. She has become much more trusting in her foster home, but it will take some time and patience. Since most people want a lapcat, Razzle's options for placement are more limited. If you have the ability to accommodate her personality, you could spare Razzle the stress of ongoing adoption fairs and provide her with the safety and security she so desperately wants.
