Coppell Humane Society

Welcome to the Coppell Humane Society website.  We are a foster home organization and keep the animals until they find their forever homes, no matter how long that takes.  We have no paid staff.

Available Pets

We do not have a shelter - all the animals reside in private foster homes.

Pictures and descriptions of all our available pets can be viewed online at PetFinder.

You can see the pets in person every weekend at our mobile Adopt-A-Pets events.

How You Can Help

There are many ways that you can help the Coppell Humane Society fulfill its mission to serve homeless, needy companion animals in the Dallas-Ft Worth metroplex and surrounding communities.

You can make several different types of financial donations or you can volunteer your time.

Help Us Help Mia

January 8, 2010:  Mia is a local media queen now!  She was featured at ReadLarryPowell.com in his weekend feature called "Let Sleeping Dogs Lie & Napping Cats Nap."  The picture of Mia cuddled with Sidney the Cat is just too cute!

After being in her foster home for a week or so, it became apparent that Mia wasn’t feeling well. After several expensive tests, our vets discovered that Mia’s liver is not functioning properly. In order to determine what is exactly wrong, Mia is scheduled to undergo a diagnostic procedure on Monday at a specialty clinic. After this procedure Mia’s medical expensive will be over $800.

Please help us help Mia by donating any amount you can.  Every dollar will go directly toward Mia's medical expenses until all costs are met. In the event that donations marked for "Mia’s Medical Expenses" exceed her medical expenses, the excess will be placed into a special fund designated solely for other special needs dogs.

You can make a secure, tax-deductible donation* online using PayPal or any major credit card:

Or, you can mail a check to:  Coppell Humane Society, P.O. Box 1561, Coppell, Texas  75019.  Be sure to specify on your check that the donation is for "Mia’s Medical Expenses".

*Humane Society of Coppell, Inc. DBA "Coppell Humane Society" is a Texas non-profit, 501(c)3, tax exempt organization and relies on donations to help us take care of our pets.

Mia is a young Italian Greyhound (mix?) rescued from a local shelter when her “time” was almost up. Pictures of Mia have been shared with several individuals who are very familiar with Italian Greyhounds. Some think she is a purebred while others think she is a mix. The thought that she is a mix is mostly based on those beautiful floppy ears which give her such character.

One of Mia’s unique characteristics is her ability to “talk”. When she is happy or excited, she will yodel and chortle and yip to let you know how wonderful life is. Mia enjoys chasing her youngest Yorkie foster brother through the house as he runs around with a toy in his mouth. Mia has even charmed the old, grumpy Yorkie in her foster home. He’s been caught sneaking in to share a bed with her for a lazy afternoon’s nap. This little girl loves to give out kisses. Even at the scary vet’s office, she is always ready and willing to give out kisses to the staff and her favorite vet.

After being in her foster home for a week or so, it became apparent that Mia wasn’t feeling well. After several expensive tests, our veterinarians discovered that Mia’s liver is not functioning properly. In order to determine what is exactly wrong, Mia is scheduled to undergo a diagnostic procedure on Monday at a specialty clinic. After this procedure Mia’s medical expensive will be over $800.

When, or even if, Mia is available for adoption, her adoption fee of $175 will not cover her medical expenses. Once a pet comes into our program, CHS is committed to see that they received the medical treatment that they need. Each and every time we rescue a dog or a cat from a shelter it is a gamble whether they will be healthy or not. Luckily for us the majority of the time they are healthy, but once in a while we rescue a “Mia”. Any donation to help with Mia’s medical expenses will be greatly appreciated.

More importantly, please keep Mia on your thoughts and prayers in the upcoming weeks. She is a beautiful, sweet dog that deserves a second chance on life. We will keep you posted on her progress. Thank you for being a “friend” and supporter of CHS.

Update We didn't get the test results that we were hoping for. Mia can't be "fixed". She has multiple inoperable liver shunts. Our focus has now shifted from getting Mia ready for adoption to making sure that she has as much love and care as possible in the time she has left. Mia is on medication to treat her disease and will remain in her foster home for as long as she has a good quality of life.
